Welcome to the website. It is all about Scottish endurance running, mainly about Scottish road running and has a lot about special road races such as the Edinburgh to Glasgow Relay and the E-G straight through race but it is mainly about people and their contribution to our sport over the years. The period covered is mainly from the 40's to the start of the twenty first century. There have been contributions by such as Colin Youngson, Alistair McFarlane, Walter Eadie in Canada, Alex Wilson in Germany, Mike Johnson, Don Morrison, Arnold Black, Joe Small, David Hall, wonderful photographs from Graham MacIndoe, Charles Bannerman - and many of the runners themselves contributed to the portraits. The degree of co-operation has been very encouraging.
This is not a website for the statisticians among us - their needs are well served by Ron Morrison's wonderful archive at www.salroadrunningandcrosscountrymedalists.co.uk/index which is a real treasure trove of results from championships and relays at all distances on road and over the country. I would also mention Arnold's site at www.scotstats.com which has all this year's results, ranking lists for all events and some excellent blogs by some of our best athletes - indeed there are links to some of them (Lawrie Spence's and Fraser Clyne's) on the relevant pages here. There are links to Ron's site on the appropriate pages including the Edinburgh to Glasgow where he has every runner, every position, every race and every time!
There are also pages on my take on over 50 years involvement in athletics as runner, coach, official, administrator and even steward and gofer. Having come into the sport in 1957 with Clydesdale Harriers and done a lot of running I became a coach.... and administrator .... and official ..... and gofer! The website mainly covers Scottish athletics - and mainly road running and events - with links to pages about the Clydesdale Harriers and my coaching career.
